Donate today to be a part of this impactful journey. \nThe State Mission Offering is a cornerstone of our mission work\, dedicated to supporting vital ministries throughout Georgia. By contributing to this offering\, you join a legacy of compassion and service that uplifts the most vulnerable among us. \nTogether for Hope Initiative\n\nOur collaboration with the Together for Hope initiative focuses on alleviating rural poverty in Georgia and beyond. By partnering with churches and local organizations\, we create sustainable solutions that empower communities. \n\nFuller Center for Housing\n\nIn partnership with the Fuller Center for Housing\, we work to provide safe and affordable homes for those in need. Promote our offering and participate in the upcoming build in Ben Hill County. \n\nGive to the CBFGA State Mission Offering\n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n Footprints and Tent Poles by Emily Harbin Glass\, CBFGA Moderator\, Minister to Students and Young Adults\, First Baptist Church\, Athens\n \n \n Aug 19\, 2024 | Adults & Senior Adults\, Latest News\, Moderator In our last Coordinating Council meeting\, I shared this blurb from Eugene Peterson’s A Long Obedience in the Same Direction (quoting William Faulkner): “Life is not about making monuments\, but about making footprints. A monument only says\, ‘At least I got this far’ while a footprint says\, ‘This is where I was when I moved again.’” \nRaise your hand if you have been part of a church visioning process! I see the eyes rolling now\, and I have some bad news for you. Gone are the days of completing one such visioning process and living into your new congregational dream for ten or twenty years. The current rate of change in church life calls for more frequent and habitual review. The good news is\, as your church pauses more often for evaluation\, there is less life you have to assess. It is easier to lean a church closet if you do it a few times a year rather than leaving it for a decade! (I see you\, VBS planning teams!) \nThe process of routine evaluation lends itself to a healthy culture that says\, “This is where we were when we moved again.” At CBFGA it is time\, yet again\, for such a review. \nBack in April\, our Coordinating Council retreated together in North Georgia. We spent a few days reflecting on areas of growth for our organization\, which to be completely candid\, are plenty! As we discussed what we value and the needs we see for our Georgia churches\, three common themes rose to the surface: \n\nContinuing to connect churches with each other for retreats and resources\nSupporting congregations in seasons of transition\nEncouraging a culture of vocational calling through testimony\, scholarship\, and financial aid\n\nThe energy and depth of conviction bubbling around these topics was clear. Though we do not have catchy titles just yet\, these three areas will become what Jody called “tent poles” for our organization’s future. Such identity markers are sometimes referred to as organizational pillars; however\, the language of tent poles seems much more appropriate. \nUnlike pillars\, tent poles can be packed up and moved as we make footprints in our organizational life\, footprints that say\, “This is where we were when we moved again!” \nPlease join me in praying for our CBFGA staff and Coordinating Council as we further invest in these three areas of need among our Georgia congregations. \n \n \n \n	« Older Entries\n	Next Entries »

SUMMARY:William L. Self Preaching Lectures at McAfee School of Theology
DESCRIPTION:Save the Date\nWilliam L. Self Preaching Lectures\nMarch 11-12\, 2024\nDr. Teresa Fry Brown will be the Keynote Speaker\nThe William L. Self Lectureship at Mercer University’s McAfee School of Theology was established in order to promote the practice of faithful and effective preaching of the gospel. \nThe lecture series is named in memory of Dr. William L. Self\, Pastor Emeritus of Johns Creek Baptist Church\, Alpharetta\, who was nationally recognized as a gifted preacher\, pastor\, author\, lecturer\, motivational speaker\, and innovator in church growth. Dr. Self achieved considerable acclaim by leading Wieuca Road Baptist Church\, Atlanta\, to a place of prominence in Georgia and the nation. As pastor of Johns Creek\, his leadership and influence brought the church to the vanguard of fast-growing churches. \nThe purpose of the lectureship is to enlighten and inspire those whose calling is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ. The lectures seek to instill in students and pastors a passion for better preaching by providing worthy models and by offering seasoned instruction and encouragement. Each year the lecture series features a nationally recognized preacher. \n \nThe Rev. Dr. Teresa L. Fry Brown is the Bandy Professor of Preaching\, a chaired professorship created in 1986 with a gift from B. Jackson Bandy that is considered by many to be the country’s premier chair in homiletics. Fry Brown has taught at Candler since 1994\, and in 2010\, she became the first African American woman to attain the rank of full professor. She also served as the Director of Candler’s Black Church Studies program until 2015. \nClick Here for More Details Closer to the Event\n

Just like the tri-state partnership between Tennessee\, Alabama\, and Georgia\, FBC Chattanooga reflects a beautiful blend of unity and diversity in ministry. \nFirmly rooted in the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship\, this congregation is far from ordinary. From the rich\, resonant notes of the pipe organ\, to preaching shared by both women and men\, to children joyfully participating in worship\, FBC Chattanooga fosters an environment where every person can feel at home in God’s family. \nTheir embrace is wide and warm—welcoming the curious and the certain\, the comfortable and the struggling\, the well-fed and the hungry. Here\, relationships grow deep\, offering nourishment\, encouragement\, and lasting connection—just like the bonds we hope to strengthen at the TAG Assembly. \nTogether\, we’ll share in the beauty of bold\, imaginative ministry and the joy of beloved community within this sacred space.
